Rakesh was born as the third child of the Jhunjhunwala family and has two elder siblings and one younger sister. He has one elder brother and sister named Rajesh and Sudha and the younger one named Neena.

Rakesh fell in love with yet another stock market investor Rekha and they both got married in 1987. Things were quite rough for the couple as they were facing problems at conceiving a child.
They tried for several IVF treatments and everything and after having six trials they were blessed to have a daughter named Nishtha in 2004 and their happiness knew no bounds.
After this, they were again blessed with two more sons named Aryaveer and Aryaman. The loving family presently resides at the II Palazzo located at the Malabar Hills in Mumbai itself.
Apart from his family, Rakesh loves to read books. He also loves to watch food shows on television. He is a great fan of Bollywood movies and has revealed that his favorite actor would be Amitabh Bachan.

Rakesh’s elder brother was also a successful chartered accountant and he extended his hand of help to Rakesh initially. It was because of him that Rakesh was acquainted with his first client who was none other than the renowned Mr. Mendonca.
He and his second client provided Rakesh with some money to invest and in turn, Rakesh promised them to acquire a return of eighteen percent, and in total and he was able to invest 11.5 lakhs. He was able to get hold of his first big profit.
He got his major profit from the Tata Tea and its prices rose again and now the profit which he received was the profit that he received earlier. He then used his business mindset and sharply invested at the Sesa Goa as well.
