In order to provide for a better life for their children, their family of 10 moved from Ahmedabad to Tharad. He went on to study at Sheth Chimanlal Nagindas Vidyalaya school situated in Ahmedabad.

Gautam was born into an entrepreneurial family. Although he didn’t express much interest in his father’s textile business.
He always wanted to indulge in the process of trade and commerce, i.e. business, but not textile. So after dropping out after his second year in college, he moved to Mumbai in search of a job.
He got employed as a diamond sorter and worked for the Mahindra brothers. A few months down the lane, his sibling purchased a plastics production unit and invited Gautam to join.
That was the beginning of the glorious journey which is laced with dedication and perspiration.
They started out small by indulging in small-scale industries and providing them with the required raw material first.
Then they went on to establish Adani enterprises around 1985, which now was a bigger enterprise than what they started out from.
In 1991, due to certain unavoidable but favorable policies being circulated, they benefited in a huge manner by finding the opportunity to expand their business from the original dealings of agriculture and plastic to textiles, trading, and other branches.
They hit the jackpot when they scored the port in Gujarat in 1991. After securing it, there was quite literally no looking back.
The port, now managed by Adani’s son, is the biggest private port in India. They later went on to establish the Adani Power co, which is the biggest thermal power plant with the largest production in India.
