While at MIT, Saylor joined the Theta Delta Chi fraternity after successful completion of the training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He was appointed as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. However, much to his disappointment, due to a medical condition, Saylor could not continue as a pilot.
He then joined the consultant firm The Federal Inc. The year 1988, saw Saylor taking up the role of an internal consultant in the firm DuPont as a developer of computer models to facilitate the company in anticipating changes in its major markets. He also worked on models focusing more on the strategic decision-making at companies like Dow and Exxon.
It was in the year 1989 that Saylor put all his experiences at play and founded his own company MicroStrategy at just 24 years of age. The main vision of the company was to provide businesses with intelligence services to help them in maintaining strategies.
MicroStrategy had its first breakthrough in 1992 when it received a $10 million contract from McDonald’s to develop applications that would help them analyze the efficiency of their promotional services.
After exponential growth, Saylor took the company public in 1998. The shares of the company performed so well that by the early 2000s Saylor was the richest man in entire Washington with a net worth of around $7 billion.

After the statements were re-assessed, and the true financial statements were released, the stock prices dropped meteorically. Saylor’s net worth fell suffered a demolition of $6 billion.
June 2012 saw Saylor turn into an author when he released his only book “The Mobile Wave: How Mobile Intelligence Will Change Everything”. The book was a hit and it got listed on the New York Times Bestsellers list. This helped him pull back his reputation which had suffered a major blow.
2020 finally saw MicroStrategy pull back its wealth when Saylor saw a huge opportunity in investments in Bitcoin. He invested the majority of MicroStrategy’s liquid cash into bitcoins.
