From being an obese child who had to face all those harsh bullies to being the pride of the nation, this guy has come a long way.
While attending the Panipat Stadium, Jaiveer Choudhary, the javelin thrower from Haryana, recognized Neeraj’s talent. He was Neeraj’s first mentor as well.
He then got admitted to the Tau Devi Lal Sports in Panchkula to learn long-run and professional javelin throw. He could manage to throw to a range of 55 meters, however, when he went to the Lucknow Junior Championships in 2012, he bagged the record throw of 68.40 meters.
Following this, he got the invitation to join NIS, Patiala to train further.
Neeraj’s first big achievement would be his qualification in the 2014 Youth Olympics followed by a record throw of 87.3 meters at the South Asian Games.
2016 came as a happy-sad year in Neeraj Chopra’s life as he managed to clinch the Gold in the 2016 IAAF World Under-20 Championship, but failed to qualify for the Rio Olympics due to a cut on his finger.
Neeraj didn’t get demotivated by this. Rather, he continued to work harder and harder with each passing day while eagerly waiting for the next Olympics.
The wait was over for Neeraj with the announcement of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Here came the big breakthrough in Neeraj Chopra’s life as he clinched the Gold with a record throw of 87.58 meters becoming the first Indian track and field athlete to grab a gold.

He also won the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2022 Republic day honors.
