Her parents were Elinor Tullie and John Martin Couric, Jr. Her father worked as a public relations executive and a news editor at media outlets like United Press and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in Washington D.C Her mother was a homemaker but she worked as a writer whenever she got some time in her hand. She had one brother and two sisters. 

Her mother was the daughter of Jewish emigrants from Germany and was later converted to Presbyterianism just before her marriage. Personal Life of Katie Couric

She was married to Jay Monahan in 1989. She met her husband while working as a news correspondent. He worked as an attorney. The couple had two daughters together. Their first daughter Elinor was born on July 23, 1991, and the youngest one named Caroline was born on January 5, 1996.

Sadly, Jay Monahan didn’t have a long life to live and lost his life to colorectal cancer at the age of 42 in 1998. This deeply affected Katie and was left with two young children of age 6 and 2 to raise on her own. It was a challenge on its own to play the role of both parents to her children but she eventually did her job as a wonderful single mother. 

In September, she got engaged to John Molner, a financier whom she met two years ago through a mutual friend. After dating, they tied the knot on June 21, 2014, in a small and private ceremony.

During her college years, along with her studies, she took part in a lot of journalism events and worked actively in the field of journalism. She worked in various positions at The Cavalier Daily, one of the popular and award-winning newspapers. 

She began her broadcast career as a desk assistant job at ABC News Bureau in Washington, D.C. in 1979. Slowly but steadily she began to climb ranks from a desk job to a presenter on various news channels with her hard work and effort. 

She worked in various positions be it odd or good which included the roles of political correspondent, assistant producer, assistant editor, etc for CNN over a decade she worked in the NBC subsidiaries for a decade. She finally joined as deputy Pentagon reporter at the main NBC headquarters.
