Personal Life of Jim Nantz

Jim Nantz chose to let the world know how he attained the stardom that he was enjoying, through his book, “Always By My Side – A Father’s Grace” wherein he mentioned how his father, helped him through his ups and downs and gave him the confidence he needed to move forward in his life. 

In May 2008, Nantz came up with another book titled “Sports Journey Unlike Any Other”. Through that book, Nantz shared his journey in the fields of football, golf, and basketball, by narrating various stories. Being the humble man he is, Nantz did not forget to pay respects to the people, he met along the way and who kept on reminding him of his father’s virtuous words.

However, life has its own challenges and bitterness. Jim Nantz Jr., the father of Jim Nantz, passed away in 2008 owing to Alzheimer’s disease. In January 2011, to pay respects to his father and also to facilitate the other patients, Nantz collaborating with The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, inaugurated the Nantz National Alzheimer Center.

Jim Nantz had a tough married life. He had an unfortunate split in 2009 with Ann-Lorraine Carlsen whom Nantz was married to for 26 years. They had a daughter together named Caroline. Hardships continued for him as in November 2009, he was ordered to pay a huge sum annually in child support and alimony. Being the man he was, Nantz with his utter honesty acknowledged having an extramarital affair with a 29-year-old, prior to the divorce being filed. 

On June 9, 2012, Nantz finally saw an end to all the ensuing troubles in his life and married Courtney Richards in California.

Jim Nantz has a remarkable career path. 

Prior to his breakthrough at CBS Sports, Nantz worked as an anchor and sportscaster for KHOU in Houston, Texas in the early 1980s. Post that, he worked as a weekend sports anchor on KSL-TV in Salt Lake City for three years. 

After his brief stint there, Nantz joined CBS Sports in 1985, which, changed his life completely. Nantz has been anchoring the Masters Tournament, for CBS, for a record thirty-plus years now since 1989. He, along with Billy Packer anchored the NCAA Final Four men’s basketball finals for a record 17 years, from 1991 until 2008. 

After hosting CBS’s pre-game show, “The NFL Today” from 1998 to 2003, Nantz achieved another feat as he became “The NFL On CBS’s” top announcer in 2004.

In 2014, a huge responsibility was handed over to Jim Nantz. Nantz and his broadcast partner Phil Simms hosted the Thursday Night Football games in a deal that CBS had finalized with the NFL Network. This, shot up his fame. The year 2017, marked the end of the scintillating pair as former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo took over from Phil Simms as Nantz’s fellow commentator for CBS’ NFL telecasts. They also anchored the Super Bowl LIII and Super Bowl LV. By then Jim Nantz had established himself as one of the finest broadcasters the world had ever witnessed.

He is continuing the call at “The Masters” and will continue to be the top play-by-play announcer with Romo for The NFL on CBS and college basketball’s NCAA tournament.

Apart from sports, Nantz has also made notable appearances in the media. He appeared on episodes of the television show, “The Price Is Right”. Besides, Nantz had a cameo in the 1996 film “Tin Cup” and in episodes of quite a few noteworthy television series, the most notable being “How I Met Your Mother”, where, he played himself. He also essayed the role of the announcer for the fictional baseball team in the series Clubhouse.
