Jason Kidd Personal Life

Kidd’s personal life is a stark contrast to his glitzy, shiny professional life. He married actor and journalist, Joumana in 1997. 4 years later, in 2001, he was arrested for assaulting his wife. He pleaded guilty.

Kidd was then instructed to take anger management classes for half a year. He obliged.

Kidd filed for divorce in 2007 on the pretext of brutality in their marriage. His wife, Joumana, counter-filed a complaint stating more physical abuse. The couple shares three children.

Kidd remarried Porschla Coleman, a model, in 2011. They share three children.

Kidd was arrested by Southampton Police, in 2015, for driving under influence. His vehicle had hit a telephone pole and swerved into the woods.

Jason Kidd Career

Kidd got his NBA breakthrough when he was selected by the Dallas Mavericks at the second pick of the 1994 NBA draft.  He was talked about the most for his passes and was a member of the “Three J’s” in Dallas. Shortly enough things turned sour between them and just after two years, Dallas traded him to the Phoenix Suns. It was here where he consolidated his position as a perennial All-Star and a distinctive defender.

In 2001, when the Suns dealt him with New Jersey Nets, he proved his quality. Kidd’s immeasurable talent brought about one of the greatest turn around in the league’s history by pulling out the almost doomed Nets and bringing them into 2 consecutive NBA finals in his first two seasons (2002 – 2003).

During the season of 2007-08, Kidd went back to where he started, the Mavericks, and then guided the 2008 “Redeem Team” to a Gold in Olympic Male basketball, after the national team had failed to capture the gold in previous Games.

Around this time, his age was considerably affecting his ability to stay guard in the league on defense. However, Kidd known for his tactical skills took the not-so-very likely task of being a legitimate shooter. Mavericks on their almost impossible run of the 2011 title, mostly added up to the three-point snipers. Kidd had a lot to do with the team’s championship.

Kidd’s last trade was to the New York Knicks.  After a rather disappointing season in Dallas, it was evident that Kidd was slowing down on the court. Although his ideas helped the team grow, Kidd, himself, couldn’t perform with the same agility.

But for such a brilliant player, it was time to coach the teams. Kidd went on to coach the Knicks for a season and then went on to become the head coach of the Nets days later.

Kidd has an impressive career graph and finished in style, third all-time in career triple-doubles, and ran in second in assists and steals.

After a rocky season with the Nets, Kidd wanted to oversee the basketball operations but was rebuffed by the higher authorities. While coaching the Bucks, he was initially successful but his failure to build a consistent winner, frustrated management and fans alike, and resulted in him being fired mid-2017-18 season. In 2019, Kidd was named the assistant coach for Los Angeles Lakers and led them to win the NBA title in 2020. In 2021, he was appointed the head coach of Mavericks.
