They have been dating each other since their Natick High School days. After five years of serious dating, they finally embraced the next step of their life together in 1985.

In the upcoming three years of college, he made a name for the Eagles and won the Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award, and the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award. 

The life turn-about moment came when his “Hail Flutie” was performed for the first time in the match against the Miami Hurricanes in 1984, resulting in MVP despite the loss. This incident made him land in the eyes of the USFL, who were in dire need of a capable player with a good reputation.

With fate in favor, this collaboration led him to play for the New Jersey Generals for the next three years with a deal of a whopping $1.25M and get a chance to be the highest-paid rookie of any sport in 1985. But the time in USFL was not as impressive as it seemed initially.

After joining the NFL in 1986, he was traded to England to play for the New England Patriots.
