Her parents were factory workers who worked at an auto and sewing factory respectively. They had another daughter named Malorie who was born a year later than Cynthia. They raised their daughters and son in Tuscumbia together.
Due to her parents being working parents, she was raised under her grandmother’s care for most of the day until her parents picked them up at night after work. Her grandmother had 11 kids to feed and raise while working outside. She had seen her grandmother Mae Frankie Ford working in a sewing factory, selling hotdogs and hamburgers, and cleaning houses to pay the bills and have a roof over their heads. Personal Life of Cynthia Bailey
Bailey had dated her fair share of fine men like Jayson Williams, Russel Simmons, and Leon Robinson during her youth. She turned down a marriage alliance with all of them. She shared a romantic relationship with Leon Robinson and they had one daughter together named Noelle on Nov 9, 1998.
She finally tied the knot with Peter Thomas on July 24, 2010, but divorced six years later due to some disagreements. Cynthia started walking on the ramps from an early age. While in high school, she won the Deshler High School Homecoming Queen award. She was the first African-American to win this award. After this award, she participated in a few other events before catching the eye of Wilhelmina Models talent scout who contacted her for signing a contract. At the age of 18, Bailey packed her bags and left her Alabama hometown to pursue a better life in New York,
She signed a five-year contract with Wilhemina Models. They trained her and polished her skills. She began modeling at age of 18 and made appearances in several magazines. She was featured on Essence magazine’s front cover.
She debuted in “The Dark Power”, a low-budget film released in 1985. It was her first work as an artist. Then after this movie, she went on rocking the ramps of Milan and Paris for a few years. She had worked with fashion brands like Vogue, Elle, and Vanity Fair.
Her professionalism and work ethic won over Susan L.Taylor, the EIC of Essence. She mentioned Bailey being her personal favorite. She was featured on the covers of June 1995 and the 1997 Essence cover and also seen in other fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle, and Vanity Fair.
