As the pandemic struck India, ICC T20 World Cup 2021 was postponed and moved from India to the United Arab Emirates. Held in the picturesque stadiums of the United Arab Emirates, every single match was filled with excitement and heat.
Soaring through the league table and the playoffs, the mighty Aussies were the winners of the competition. Maintaining their form and offering stunning performances, they grabbed their first ICC T20 World Cup Trophy.
The victorious squad included some of the best cricketers on the international map of cricket. David Warner, Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, and the others dominated the tournament with their massive boundaries and vicious deliveries.
In the final match, they faced the Kiwis on the fast pitch of Dubai International Stadium. Winning the toss, the Aussies sent New Zealand to bat on the new pitch. Despite heavy paces and baffling spins from Hazlewood, Zampa, and Cummins; New Zealand managed to put up 172 on the scoreboard.
Australia opened their innings with a slow start but gained speed after the power play. After a half-century from opener David Warner (53), Mitchell Marsh (77*) partnered with Glenn Maxwell (28*) to end the dreams of the Kiwis.
While Mitchell Marsh was named the Best Man in the final match, David Warner took up the position of Player of the Tournament. With a uniform batting average throughout the tournament, Warner was the leading contender for the title.

New Rules in this ICC World Cup T20 2022
The International Cricket Council has incorporated a bunch of new rules and amendments in the ‘constitution’ of the T20 World Cup. While the effectiveness and the morality of these new rules are debatable, these rules will surely add to the excitement of limited-over cricket.
- New Batsmen on the Strike-end: As per the previous rules, if the batsmen on the pitch crossed each other before the striker got out, the non-striker would have to face the next ball.
According to the new rule, the new batsman has to face the next ball, regardless of the previous batsmen crossing each other.
- ‘Mankading’ will not be considered an Unsportsmanlike act: The act of running out a non-striker if they leave the non-striker end before delivery is known as ‘Mankading’. There have been multiple controversies in recent times, regarding this practice.
ICC has officially acknowledged this form of running out through the new amendments.
- Penalty for Slow Overs: This new rule allows the fielding team to have only four fielders outside the 30-yards circle after 85-minutes of their in-game bowling innings.
- Striker’s position while playing a delivery: The batsman on the striking end has to have a part of their body or their bat within the pitch.
If the batsman leaves the pitch, the delivery will be considered a dead ball. If the striker is forced to leave the pitch due to the direction of the delivery, it will be considered a no-ball and a free hit will be offered to the batting side.
- Penalty for Unfair movement of fielders: The fielding team will be penalized if any fielder disregards the laws of fielding, in between deliveries. In that case, the batting team will be awarded five runs and the respective delivery will be pronounced dead-ball.
