While at the University of Kansas, following his short break from Pomona, Gregg became close friends with Larry Brown. That one connection turned Gregg Popovich’s life.

San Antonio Spurs signed the 6’11 Duncan and the 7’1 Robinson for their upcoming season. The “Twin-Tower” absolutely turned the tables as the Spurs went to win the 1999 NBA. It was their first-ever title.

Serious about his responsibilities as the coach, Popovich retired from his position as the general manager and handed it over to R.C. Buford. Popovich proved his capabilities to the world as the Spurs had a new record of not losing any of the finals they reached.

It was in the year 2013 that San Antonio Spurs were handed their first-ever final defeat by Miami Heat. That, however, didn’t go too well with Popovich as in the very next season, they won their fifth NBA title.

On 9th February 2015, Popovich touched the milestone of 1000 wins, becoming only the ninth coach in the NBA to have achieved this grand feat. Recently in 2022, Gregg Popovich made a record 1336th victory, surpassing Hall of Famer Don Nelson’s feat. Popovich accomplished this by taking 370 fewer games.
