Due to personal reasons, troubles in paradise led to his parents getting divorced when David was 17. He continues to maintain a good relationship with his family.

He worked in the Frederator studios till the head of UrbanBaby inc. sought out for a diligent and skilled employee. His name came on the ballot and he was recommended, thus making him leave his current job and move to Tokyo on his own as per the requirement of his job.
For him completing the project within a very short deadline and working dedicatedly, he got promoted as the head of the product. Apart from his regular salary, he was paid a small share of the equity.
UrbanBaby was sold to another company and thus David saw this as an opportunity to venture out on his own. Being 17; he wisely sold the shares that he owned in UrbanBaby and used the money to build his own company known as ‘Davidville’.
He paired up with Marco Arment and together they created a microblogging site on their own in the span of a few months. They named it Tumblr and launched it in February 2007.
His company ‘Davidville’ was now officially changed to ‘Tumblr Inc’ and he closed his business and focused solely on developing Tumblr. It was officially announced that Yahoo! was buying Tumblr for $1.1 billion.
