Craig Robinson has been married twice. With his first wife, Craig had some issues which he says couldn’t even be solved by his luxurious lifestyle. Craig learned that love is invaluable and rare the most valuable asset in life. He had two kids from his first wife Janis Robinson, Avery, and Leslie.

Before becoming a full-time basketball coach, Craig Robinson worked in the business world in an investment bank. Though Craig worked in the business world, he always stayed in touch with his passion for basketball by either scouting or by coaching at the University of Chicago High School.
In 1999, remembering his father’s advice on how to decide what he should do in his life, he went back to coaching as an assistant under Bill Carmody where his salary was one-tenth his previous salary.
In 2006, Craig soon became a head coach at Brown University and helped improve a mid-level basketball program. Craig emphasized on improvement of players’ vocabulary, and work ethic and imparted the significance of tough love in the long run.
Craig has always been a family person and stood by the Obama family with his brother-in-law during his presidential campaign in 2008. From giving speeches in different states to always recruiting visits, Craig has helped Obama a lot. Craig’s largest national exposure was when he introduced Michelle before her speech on 25th August 2008.
Robinson switched his job from Brown to Oregon State Beavers’ head basketball coach in April 2008. The team didn’t have a good winning record and had a 6–25 mark the previous year. Under Craig’s guidance, within a year the scores soared high starting with a 6–6 record, and a two-year losing streak was broken as well.
Barack Obama(president during the win) called Craig to congratulate him. This team won another Pac-10 game under Craig’s guidance due to which some said he deserves the Pac-10 Coach of the Year award.
The Beavers eventually got accepted into the 2009 College Basketball Invitational, they even made it to the post with a 5–1 record and won the postseason tournament championship after they won over UTEP Miners. This was their first ever postseason, half of the credit goes to Craig as under his guidance the team performed exceptionally. This led to an extension of the contract between the university and Craig, his new contract was extended till the 2015-16 season.
Through the seasons the Oregon State team saw many peaks and troughs under Craig’s guidance 2010-2011 saw a trough with a 5–13, a losing record whereas the 2011-2012 season saw an overall win season, they even got invited to the 2012 College Basketball Invitational and made a record after 1990. Though Craig had faith in his team after their successes, the 2012-2013 season was one of the worst seasons for the team with a 4-14 conference record and 14-18 mark overall.
After the 2013–2014 season which showed an improvement in the performance of the team, there were many games that they lost because of transfers of many star players. Craig got fired as Oregon State men’s head basketball coach in 2014 and was given $4 million because he had three years left in his contract.
After this, he did two more jobs as a vice president of players in the Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks.
Craig was recruited as the Executive Director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches in July 2020.
